Marilyn Monroe was not considered skinny. She had a few lump of fat here and there and her hips were big. Her BMI, 19.91, was higher than celebrities that had been around before (Erica Evansville, 2015). When she wore swimming suits, she did not have a flat belly and her arms nor legs were extremely toned. Yet she still wore body hugging clothes and showed off her curves. She did not lose her weight just because the majority of the celebrities were skinny but maintained her so called curvy body.
In modern day society, all shapes and sizes are considered beautiful and Marilyn Monroe was a part of making that happen. She showed of her rather chubby body than trying to lose weight or hide it. She showed off her curves which inspired others to do the same. She tried to get others to think that being skinny is not the only way to be beautiful. Today, we see a lot of curvy women like Nikki Minaj, Scarlett Johansson, and Kim Kardashian, becoming the ideal body. They too are not afraid to embrace their curvy bodies.

Marilyn Monroe taught women to love their bodies and to embrace their flaws rather than hide them (Abz Zeitler, 2014). This is a huge concept that is very important for women. Because of her, a lot of women got the courage to look however they wanted. She believed that it was okay to be different. She encouraged women to be the way they wanted without taking in people's negative opinions (Heather Warlick, 2012). Marilyn also thought that imperfections were beautiful. “Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius and it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring.” (Marilyn Monroe, 2015). Marilyn thought her beauty mark was a flaw but since she could not get rid of it, she embraced it and because she did, others thought it was beautiful. This is seen in modern society when people say stretch marks are beautiful.
