Biography
Norma Jeane Baker, also known as Marilyn Monroe, was born on June 1, 1926, in Los Angeles, California. Norma had a difficult childhood. She never knew who her father was and her mother had psychiatric issues that eventually put her in a mental hospital. One of the childhood memories Norma had was when her mother tried to suffocate her in her crib with a pillow (biography.com, 2015).
Norma Jeane Baker spent most of her time in foster care and in orphanages in her younger years. She was sexually assaulted several times during her time in the foster care and had been raped at the age of 11. She married Jimmy Dougherty, at the age of 16, just to escape from all the sexual harassments at the foster care. While her husband was away for his job as a marine, Norma discovered a photographer. When her husband returned, she was already a successful model. Because of her focus on her success, Norma had to divorce her husband (biography.com, 2015).

Norma Jeane Baker started acting and filming movies. She made a stage name called Marilyn Monroe and dyed her hair platinum blonde which became one of her trademarks. She began acting in small parts and gained a lot of attention. The people liked her performance and she soon became one of Hollywood's most famous actresses. Marilyn's sex symbol in the film "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" became a hit. Due to her hourglass figure and breathy voice, she was admired by the crowd even though her acting wasn't the best (biography.com, 2015). Later in her career, Marilyn suffered from anxiety which affected her acting career and sometimes made her ill. Throughout time, Marilyn's career and personal life was becoming a downfall. She had unsuccessful marriages and relationships, she couldn't get pregnant, and her fears from her childhood haunted her. This made her turn to psychotherapy and drugs (anb.org, 2015). On August 5, 1962, Marilyn Monroe was found dead at her Los Angeles home. She died from drug overdose.
